The French Connection

I am in love.

I am loved.

Lille seems pretty far, but they've got planes and trains and cars,
so that matters little.

When last I wrote I was a happy man, now I consider myself even happier.
It feels as though a shadowy veil has been lifted. Something I can not help but link to the lifting of the Curse.

After 8 years I was finally able to fall in love with non-vegetarian, non-smoking, non-driving woman! I thank the Gods I haven't broken with all my traditions, she's still witty, intelligent and fair as a spring glade.

It has begun...

The new academic year started yesterday!
The first classes of the Master of Archaeology of the Mediterranean and the Near East!
Ghent is coming to live again after Her comatose summer slumber, people are again multiple and seem to be multiplying where they walk. (an interesting thought, that ;) )

It has once more become impossible to walk a 10 minute distance in 10 minutes. Friends and acquaintances of old hamper your movement with much-welcomed chummy sentimentality and joy, while new students look around, sharing nothing but their confusion and bewilderment about this strange new environment.

It brings back the old days, the days of yore, the days of seven, yes, seven years ago and it makes me happy to see how I have grown and how the people that surround me and that I surround myself with have grown, changed and sometimes even evolved over those years.

I returned to my yearlong job of working in the University Restaurant today. I have been doing this on and off for the past three years and I'm still much thrilled to go to work. The work is simple and offers little challenge, but the people I work with are good and kindly and I greatly enjoy bantering with them. All the women at the restaurant were eagerly hugging me for coming back and were full of praise, and I can't be any less happy to see them back.

I am a happy man. The summer was filled with travel and archaeology and the coming year will offer many challenges as well AND my first trip outside Europe, digging in Aqaba, Jordan.

I am a happy man. I have many friends, both wise and less so, people I'd die for and people who'd die for me. I have good neighbours as well, who lend me their toilet paper without second thought. A precious gift in the student community. (This does not mean my neighbours aren't friends, it just gives them an extra honourary mention.)

I am a happy man. I love life, I love living and I'm in love with a girl who isn't a vegetarian!

A Beginning is a Very Delicate Time

Despite it not being the year ten thousand something something, it's still true.

I have finally caved in. My friends in Ghent all use this piece of website to do their blogstuff on, so I've decided to join them.

I don't post often, but when I do, I'm hilariously funny AND entertaining.

This post obviously is a filler, placed here to help me figure out a cool and spiffy lay-out for this hunk of junk of a blog.
